Senior Information

Educational Testing Service(ETS), a division of SHELL, is pleased to announce the 2008 Shell Minority Scholarship Program that focuses on developing talent in the engineering and geosciences fields. Shell will sponsor up to 20 one-year awards of $2500.00 for graduating high school seniors. More awards follow a successful completion of your first year in college. Applications and supporting materials must be received no later than February 15, 2008.

Wade College offers a two-year degree program in Merchandising and Design, Interior Design, Graphic Design and Merchandise Marketing. Burger King is once again offering its Scholars Awards Program. Applications are available online thru Feb. 15, 2008. The website address is www.bk.com/scholars.

Junior Statesmen Foundation of America is offering its 2008 Summer Program at four of the top universities in America. Georgetown, Yale, Princeton and Stanford off unique opportunities to travel and learn. All inquiries should be directed to: summerschool@jsa.org. The Big Sun Athletic Organization is offering $500 awards to graduation seniors interested in competing in athletics. Go to www.bigsunathletics.com.

Memphis College of Art is offering a “Weekend Workshop” on Saturday, February 16 or March 29, 2008. If you plan to attend you will need to be on Campus by 10:00 and be prepared to stay until 4:00. Bring your portfolios and be ready to experience the energy of the art college environment.

If you are a graduating black male and have an interest in teaching, then you should apply for the “Call Me Mister” scholarship. This is opportunity for you to attend a four year college or university FREE. Go online to: www.callmemister.clemson.edu for more information and an application.

The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program will once again award its scholarship to deserving honors graduates. The scholarships will be awarded in April 2008 for the fall semester. Each scholarship award is worth $1500 a year for four years.

The Captain Shreve Athletic Council is pleased to announce the “Senior Student-Athlete Award”. One male and one female student athlete will receive recognition for the efforts on the field and in the classroom. They will be recognized at Honors Day, have their name engraved on a plaque to be displayed at Captain Shreve, and receive a one-time award of $500. You may pick up an application beginning February 4, 2008 at the front office . Please submit your application to Dr. McCalla by April 10, 2008.

College Goal Sunday Is Sunday, February 10, 2008 at Bossier Parish Community College from 2:00-4:00 PM. The Louisiana Association of Student Financial Aid Administration is sponsoring this event to help provide invaluable assistance to traditional and non-traditional students in understanding the financial aid application process. BPCC is the host site for northwest Louisiana. Volunteers from other area colleges/universities will be on hand to help students complete the FAFSA form.


 

Louisiana College Goal Sunday is February 10, 2008. This is an opportunity for you to find out about financial help if you are planning to attend a Louisiana college or university. See MS. Day for a list of schools and the times that reps will be available.

Monsanto Corporation is proud to announce their annual Agriculture Scholarship Program. One-time awards of $1500 will be given to 100 seniors enrolled in agriculture-related fields. All applications must be submitted online no later than February 15, 2008 and an application signature form must be submitted by U.S. Mail postmarked no later than February 15, 2008. Shadow Day at East Texas Baptist University is coming up on Thursday and Friday, February 7th and 8th. The cost for the overnight experience is $15. Also, if you decide to attend ETBU and you attended Shadow Day, the $25 application fee will be waived and you will be eligible for a $4000 scholarship. KFC Colonel’s Scholar Program is open to any graduating senior. You could receive up to $5000 per year for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board. For more information and an online application, go to www.kfcscholars.org. Application available from Jan.1 to Feb.15, 2008.

Seniors: The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarships are being offered again this year. Graduating seniors from Louisiana public and nonpublic schools will be selected to receive the scholarship. The scholarships will be awarded in April 2008. Each award is approximately $1500 a year for a period of not more than four years. Ms. Day has more information. Deadline March 1st.

The Savannah College of Art and Design is offering a Summer Program in June starting on the 16th. The deadline for registration and full payment fee is June 2, 2008.

The University of Tennessee-Knoxville’s Department of Nuclear and Radiological Engineering Program offers many scholarship opportunities for those students interested in pursuing a degree in nuclear engineering. Also, the Academic Common Market permits students from Louisiana to attend UTK and pay only in-state fees if they are majoring in nuclear engineering. See Ms. Day for more information.

The School of Visual Arts is offering their Silas H. Rhodes Scholarship program for new students. First –time freshman and transfer applicants seeking admission to a full-time undergraduate program for the fall 2008 semester with a minimum 3.0 GPA are eligible for the award. February 1, 2008 is the deadline for first-time freshman to get their forms in for consideration.

Randolph College (formerly Randolph-Macon College) has many scholarship opportunities for you. Their early admission applications are due on November 15th and regular admission applications are due on

The Louisiana Society of Professional Surveyors is offering a $1000 scholarship to a Louisiana high school senior that is planning to attend Nichols University. Deadline for applying is March 1, 2008.
 The 2008 Spring Invitational Program at LSU will be held on April 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. The initial batch of invitations will go out the 3rd week of January. To be eligible to receive an invitation you must have at least a 28 on your ACT or a SAT score of 1240 or greater and a minimum GPA of 3.2. After receiving your invitation you will have until February 29th to respond.

AXA is once again offering their achievement Community Scholarship. This year they will award over 725, 000 in scholarships for graduating seniors across the country. The deadline for applications for the 2008 scholarship is February 15, 2008.
