Gator Baseball on the Web!

I am excited to announce that all Shreve home baseball games will now be
"televised" on the web, hopefully beginning with the Texas High game
this Thursday at 6:00. We are presently installing a camera which will
send real-time video to a web site, and all Gator fans can go to that
site and watch games as they are played. This is a new thing for all of
us, and do not expect network-quality productions at first. However,
after having tested the equipment, I believe you will get excellent
video quality (not the choppy video you see from some web cams) and
somewhat limited commentary. We will also cut to the scoreboard on
regular intervals for those of you who may not be able to watch the
entire game but want to monitor the score. The service will be free, at
least at first. If we experience a large viewership at some point, it
may be necessary to upgrade the computer equipment, which may
necessitate a nominal charge per game or season. If you know of a Gator
fan that lives out of town or otherwise cannot make it to the stadium,
tell them about it. Details will follow soon.

The webcam is up and ready for baseball! If you go to the baseball
website you will see a link to the webcast. Click on the link, then
click on "Live Webcast." The webcam screen should come up within 10
seconds and will show a live picture of the field. The picture can be
enlarged up to full screen. Look on the bottom right of the monitor and
you should see 100%. Click on the arrow and choose up to 400% (full
screen), then adjust to fit the screen. The larger the screen, the
poorer the picture quality, although the picture is still quite good at
full screen. Weather permitting, the Gators will play Texas High at 4:00
and Fayettevill at 8:00. The webcast will start at 3:45 with a short
pre-game and will regularly begin 15 minutes prior to games. You will
hear everything the fans at the game hear as well as some additional
content they do not. I hope we can eventually have some guests to add
some flavor. See you on the web!

The Medallion Award

High stakes GEE testing will take place March 10-14, 2008.  Please remind your students to do their very best.  Each year Captain Shreve gives a medallion to students to wear at graduation who score at high levels and places the names  of these students on a plaque to be displayed in order to recognize their exemplary academic achievement.  There are 3 categories.  One for students who score advanced on all parts, another for mixed scores of advanced and mastery, and another for all scores at the mastery level.  This will be the third year of testing where the Medallion Award has been awarded.  Be sure to take a look at the plaque the next time you are at Shreve.

From State Superintendent of Education, Paul G. Pastorek:

The Department of Education is creating a Tutoring Hotline leading up to the March LEAP exams for 4th and 8th graders across the state. Every school will soon receive practice books to be taken home by students. Teachers in the 4th and 8th grade should also receive the books. I ask that you recommend that students complete several lessons each night at home leading up to the test.

We will have tutors available to help students who need assistance on those questions from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday from February 1st to March 7th. The phone number is 1-877-453-2721.

You can also direct students to the Department of Education website, www.Louisianaschools.net and go to our LEAP/GEE Help Center for further assistance on the March exams. They’ll find programs such as PASS which provides students with practice questions and online tutorials for each exam. Also, Newton’s Classroom is a fun site that can be used to help students sharpen their math skills.

We will launch a media campaign to publicize this effort across the state and hope that you will help us make sure that all students have access to these practice materials as soon as they are delivered to your schools.

Dear Gator Parent,

Before you know it, your Senior will be Graduating!

Things will become even more hectic during those final days of High School.  That is why I am offering you this opportunity today.

Yearbooks are forever, so be sure to let your children know how proud of them you are with a Senior Ad!  Send them off with one last message of love, best wishes, and pride.

Please call us and we will reserve your space today.  The last day to reserve a Senior Ad spot in the Yearbook is December 15th.  A 1/8 page Senior Ad for $50 will allow room for 1 picture and a message.  A 1/4 page Senior Ad for $75 will accommodate 2 pictures and a longer message.  Larger sizes are available:  1/2 Page is $125 and a Full Page is $200.

Your actual message or pictures for the Ad will not be due until January 15th.  Act now.  Don’t let this opportunity to send a message that lasts forever to be lost in the last minute rush!

Important Reminder: Our final page count must be turned in to the

publisher by December 15th and there can be no changes after that date.

Please call us at the yearbook number if you have any questions.
