
STUDENT DRESS CODE
The basic responsibility for the appearance of
the students of Caddo Parish schools rests with the parents and the students
themselves.
Parents have the obligation and within certain
prescribed bounds the right to determine their student's dress. Students are to
dress in apparel that is modest, tasteful, and that does not interfere with or
distract from the educational process or rights of others. Students and their
clothing should be neat, clean and well-groomed and must meet the following
guidelines:
- Attire must not be destructive to school
property.
- For health reasons, shoes must be worn.
Hosiery is required with closed shoes. No slippers, slides, open heels without
strap, clogs.
- Only tops designed to be worn outside of pants,
shorts or skirts shall be worn in that manner.
- Pants, shorts, and skirts must be worn at the
waist. No "sagging" is permitted.
- Headwear or hair rollers are prohibited in the
building. No hats are to be worn in the building during the school day or at any
school function that is held in the building. Braids and plaits with rubber
bands are prohibited. Unnatural hair color (green, blue, etc.) is prohibited.
- Body piercing jewelry cannot be worn except in
the ears.
- Sunglasses are prohibited in the building
unless they are prescribed. The prescription must be on file in the school
office.
- Bare midriffs, see-through garments, white
undergarment type T-shirts, bare backs, halter tops, low-cut blouses and pants,
tank tops, cutoffs, and tattered clothing are prohibited. There are to be no
holes or tears in clothing.
- Obscene, profane language or provocative
pictures on clothing or jewelry are prohibited.
- Satanic, cult or gang related symbolism in any
form is prohibited on school campuses.
- Drug related symbols in any form, including
advertisement or promotion of alcohol or tobacco, is prohibited on school
campuses.
A teacher will also be allowed to restrict manner
of dress or length of hair when it pertains to the health and/or safety of a
student in that teacher's specific area.
A committee composed of students, parents,
teachers, counselors, and administrators proposed the following policy regarding
the wearing of shorts and mini-skirts. It became effective on May 30, 1991.
Other items in the dress code remain unchanged.
Loose-fitting shorts may be worn by both male and
female students, during the first and fourth nine weeks, within the following
specifications:
- Length must be no shorter than 4 inches above the
middle of the kneecap.
- No cutoffs or rolled-up jeans or sweats are to be
worn. All shorts must be hemmed or cuffed.
- No athletic shorts or spandex shorts are to be
worn.
- Nothing should be showing through or from under
the shorts, such as boxers, spandex shorts, long underwear, leggings.
- Shorts and long pants are to be worn at the
waist. No sagging pant is permitted. Any belts worn are to be buckled.
- Shirts, sweaters, jackets, and other tops worn
over leggings must be no shorter than 4 inches above the knee
- All apparel is to be no shorter than 4 inches
above the middle of the knee-cap.
