Shreve Students Dominate at Regional Social Studies Fair

Congratulations to the Captain Shreve Regional Social Studies Fair participants! On March 8, 2012, ten Shreve students competed in the Regional Social Studies Fair at LSUS. All Shreve contestants placed 1st or 2nd in their respective categories and are now eligible to compete at the State Social Studies Fair in Lake Charles this April. They include…

1st Place Individual History:
The Louisiana Court System by Kyle Rachal

1st Place Individual Economics:
A Nation in Debt by Nicholas Zagzoug

1st Place Group Economics:
Show Me the Money by Stephanie Durr and Mary Catherine Fertitta

1st Place Group Sociology:
The Alice in Wonderland Syndrome by Regina Champagne and Peyton Britt

1st Place Group History:
They All Fell Down by Amelia Fertitta and Paityn Glass

2nd Place Group Geography:
The Spread of the Golden Arches by Ashley Tate and Jessie Miller

Amelia Fertitta and Paityn Glass were also awarded overall winner for Division III Group Projects.

Gators for Good: Benefiting Coach David Abney

David Abney is a Captain Shreve Alum, current Shreve faculty member, and football coach.

Coach Abney recently received a kidney transplant and is recovering well. While he had insurance that covers a large portion of the expenses Coach Abney will still have tens of thousands of dollars of medical bills. This is our opportunity as the Gator Family to help one of our own.

An account has been established at Red River Bank for donations. We are raising money at school by selling Gator for Good signs with each contributors name on them. Each sign is $1.00 and can be purchased from any football player, Key Club member, Z Club member or Student Council member. They will also be available in the front office. We will sell the signs through December 16. The signs will be posted around the school for Coach Abney to see when he comes back after the Christmas Holidays.

We would love for everyone to participate and show Coach Abney how much he means to us.

Captain Shreve has been selected to participate in a NASA program referred to as HUNCH, High Schools United With NASA To Create Hardware Initiative. Through this program, Shreve has been loaned several pieces of equipment and technology to create 3D models of objects that will be used by the NASA training program.
