Times – DuBois pitches Captain Shreve past Ruston

Captain Shreve and Ruston High tossed their aces at each other to open the LHSAA Class 5A state playoffs Monday night and both performed up to expectations.

But thanks to some clutch offense by the Gators behind senior Reid DuBois, Captain Shreve topped the Bearcats and Graham Hanes 2-0 to advance to a best-of-3 series this weekend against Natchitoches Central or Denham Springs. That matchup will probably begin at 6 p.m. Friday with a possible doubleheader beginning at noon Saturday at Shreve (32-3).

“Everyone in the playoffs has a No. 1 and we saw two good ones tonight,” said Shreve coach Todd Sharp. “You don’t expect anything differently when you get to the playoffs. We were able to get some guys on and apply some pressure.”

DuBois was spectacular on the mound over seven innings striking out nine without issuing a walk.
