Captain Shreve baseball standout Alden Moore is accustomed to battling Type I Diabetes, so getting the best of a field of 12 additional student-athletes in the 38th Times online poll for Athlete of the Week, sponsored by the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission, wasn’t much of a challenge.
Moore and his supporters accumulated 53,749 votes (54 percent) of the 99,568 votes cast in the weekly poll for the win. Also making a solid run at the title was North DeSoto softball standout Annessa Morris, who garnered a healthy 36,416 votes (37 percent).
Still going through the recruiting process, Moore has dealt with his diabetes since he was 10 years old. The Gator senior hasn’t let that slow him down in his athletic pursuits, however.
“The biggest thing has been learning how to control it,” Moore said. “I’ve always questioned what my development and growth would be like if I hadn’t been diabetic, but since I’m learning to control it, I let go of those thoughts, work harder to be the best I can be. These were the hardest times for me.”
