Captain Shreve soccer standout Kiley Rourke staged a monumental battle with Doyline basketball’s Jamaria Clark to win the Times online poll for Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers and the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission.
A junior defensive midfielder for the Lady Gators, Rourke was instrumental in Shreve’s 6-0 road victory over Central Thursday night. Apparently, she and her teammates voted throughout their long bus ride home.
Rourke and her supporters were able to secure 35,618 votes, a solid 43 percent of the 82,634 votes cast in the weekly online recognition. That allowed the teenager to top a field of nine additional candidates, including Clark, who compiled a massive 33,858 votes (41 percent). Clark was angling to be the first winner from a Class B school in the voting.
Rourke will receive a backpack, a Raising Cane’s gift card for a boxed lunch combo, and some additional Raising Cane’s swag for her efforts.
