Captain Shreve softball player Callie Moore and Airline baseball player Bryson Connell quickly distanced themselves this past week from seven additional candidates in the 30th Times online poll for Athlete of the Week, sponsored by the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission.
A heated battle ensued between fans and family of the two Class 5A standouts with Moore’s support cast compiling 28,485 votes, 43.7 percent of the 65,240 votes cast, to nose out the talented Connell, who managed 25,342 votes (38.8 percent).
A 2020 Academic All-State selection and 3-time Times All-City selection, Moore was the 2019 District 1-5A Offensive Player of the Year. She hit .461 last season with 15 homers, 89 RBI, 129 runs scored and was successful in 72 of 74 stolen base attempts. She has also been stellar on defense at shortstop, second base or on the mound.
